“While I was watching the Salesforce volunteers working with Recycleforce employees, I couldn’t help but think about the future and the employment opportunities that the incarcerated and those reentering our communities are beginning to realize.
On October 25th there was a meeting of the Forces – Salesforce and RecycleForce! Twenty-five Salesforce Trailhead trainers were given a tour of our facilities and then they volunteered to help deconstruct televisions, batteries and they even helped bail together some recycled materials. The Salesforce team had a great time and they helped us in our mission to reclaim our environment.
In a recent Atlantic article, Big Tech’s Newest Experiment in Criminal-Justice Reform, and in an Inside Indiana Business story, Indiana Women’s Prison Cuts Ribbon on Inmate Coding Program, I read that incarcerated and formally incarcerated men and women are being trained to code and as customer service and technical assistance representatives. These types of education and training opportunities create pathways to careers in the technology and service sectors. A big step in the right direction!
While I was watching the Salesforce volunteers working with Recycleforce employees, I couldn’t help but think about the future and the employment opportunities that the incarcerated and those reentering our communities are beginning to realize. I’d like to think that these opportunities are happening due to the big hearts of the tech industry in Silicon Valley, but in reality it is a result of a great need for a well trained and dedicated workforce. And not just in manual labor jobs, but in the customer service and tech industry as well.
We, at RecycleForce, are always searching for ways to serve our employees who are also our clients. Recently we’ve begun investigating this very model and will continue to do so. If any of our readers who are interested in exploring these training and employment ideas, or have a need for smart, well-trained and dedicated employees contact me and let’s talk.
We thank Salesforce for their commitment to our community!
