My Road to Redemption & Success through Helping Others

Dec 28th, 2020 • People, Re-entry, Success Stories

Five years ago, I was released from a federal penitentiary. I did my time, but I used it well, too.

More than five years ago, I began my journey to reclaim myself and help others avoid the problems and pitfalls – and the pain – I caused myself and others.

A little more than five weeks ago, I became an ex-felon in every sense of that word: I legally had my criminal records expunged by a Marion County court. Man, that was my best day in court! If I can do it, I know others can, too.

I had a lot of help along the way and that includes RecycleForce, where I work today through my nonprofit counseling others on managing their anger, working with teams, and coping with all that life and the streets throw at you. It’s a tough road for many, but the support of many makes it a lot easier, too.

I don’t know why they helped, why they wanted to “give back” the way they did, but I’m grateful and they inspired me to do the same.

Both in prison and while released on probation, and throughout the long process of trying to get my record expunged, I had the support of many. I don’t know why they helped, why they wanted to “give back” the way they did, but I’m grateful and they inspired me to do the same.

I founded B4Ufall to help others catch themselves before they fall for the lures of the streets and into the vicious cycle of crime and violence that runs rampant in our urban communities. I created the “Truth and Change” curriculum to teach as many youths as possible that they have power over their own lives – over their own decisions – no matter what life is throwing at them. By teaching them the simple truth that they control their decisions and that all decisions have consequences, good and bad, we empower them to reclaim control over their futures.

I’ve reclaimed my life by dedicating it to God and teaching the “unteachable” and reaching the “unreachable.” I was once thought of that way, too – but today, truly, I am a free man.

Have a safe and restful holiday season.
