INDIANAPOLIS – The Indianapolis Office of Sustainability and the Indianapolis Department of Public Works – Environmental Resources Management team will host an electronics recycling event on Earth Day, Saturday, April 22 at Riverside Park (2420 Riverside Drive). Similar events in recent years have drawn hundreds of attendees and diverted thousands of pounds of electronic material from the landfill.
On-site staff will direct traffic at the event, which will start at 9 a.m. and run until 2 p.m. Attendees should use the park entrance at East Riverside Drive and W 27th Street. Due to the 30th Street bridge closure over the White River, attendees should approach from 16th Street, south of the event.
“We encourage residents across Marion County to participate in another year of Earth Day electronics recycling as they re-organize during spring cleaning,” said Mayor Joe Hogsett. “Together, we can divert electronic waste from our landfills, while continuing to offer impactful re-entry employment opportunities.”
The City is partnering with local nonprofit RecycleForce for electronics recycling. RecycleForce reduces crime through re-entry employment and job training opportunities while improving the environment through electronics recycling.
There is no cost for dropping off materials to be recycled. As a general rule, acceptable electronics include anything with a cord attached, including the items listed at the bottom of this release. Indiana’s Electronic Waste law prohibits households, small businesses, and schools from disposing of electronic waste in the trash; this is a great opportunity for Marion County community members to properly recycle their waste and take care of the earth. Keep in mind this event is for households only; small businesses and schools should contact RecycleForce to coordinate individual electronics recycling. Hazardous materials and/or non-electronic materials will NOT be accepted during this event on April 22.
