RecycleForce Partnership with Indianapolis Motor Speedway

May 24th, 2023 • Green Initiatives, Recycling

As the cold weather is finally giving way to May warmth, there is one thing that every Hoosier relates to: the Indianapolis 500. More than 300,000 people will fill the IMS on Sunday, May 28th to watch 33 cars race for the most prestigious trophy in auto racing. As they look down the straightaway to the start/finish line, they will see a recently refurbished scoring pylon, but they may not know the role RecycleForce played in this project.

In March of this year, officials at IMS contacted RecycleForce to talk about recycling the parts from the upgrade, which consisted of 5,280 LED panels. It took five box truck trips, but all the panels were brought back to RecycleForce. There, our team of de-manufacturing specialists began the task of separating these panels into the different raw material groups to be sent out and used as feedstock in manufacturing. Aluminum, copper, circuit boards, and plastic were all sorted and recycled. Many of our floor specialists didn’t even realize what they were taking apart. When they found out, they were excited to be able to safely recycle such a unique piece of Hoosier life.

Anything big and small, long and tall with a cord can be recycled. As your company clears out their e-waste, let us know when you need a pickup and RecycleForce can get you on the schedule. Remember, when you recycle your old e-waste with RecycleForce, you are making both a social AND environmental impact right here in the city of Indianapolis.

Since its inception in 2006, RecycleForce has safely recycled over 100 million pounds of e-waste. Alongside this achievement, more 2,300 justice-involved men and women have come through our doors on their pathway to a better job after incarceration. A recent study showed that the unemployment rate amongst those with a justice-involved background is over 27%. To give some perspective, the unemployment rate at the height of the Great Depression was 25%. RecycleForce gives many of these men and women a second-chance and an opportunity to earn credentials to be able to place them in a better job, setting them on the path for stable and long-term employment.

Please email Daniel Rowe at drowe@recycleforce.org if you need to schedule a pickup of your e-waste material.
