Marion County community members are encouraged to properly dispose of household hazardous waste and broken electronics at Garfield Park on Saturday, September 30
INDIANAPOLIS – The Indianapolis Department of Public Works – Environmental Resources Management division will host a household hazardous waste and electronics drop off disposal event on Saturday, September 30 at Garfield Park (2432 Conservatory Drive) . Similar events in recent years have drawn hundreds of attendees and diverted thousands of pounds of material from the landfill.
On-site staff will direct traffic at the event, which will start at 9 a.m. and run until 2 p.m. The event is for Marion County residents only, and commercial waste will not be accepted. There is no cost for dropping off materials.
“We encourage residents across Marion County to properly dispose of all kinds of materials that should not be thrown away in regular curbside carts,” said Mayor Joe Hogsett. “Together, we can divert hazardous and electronic waste from our landfills, while continuing to offer impactful re-entry employment opportunities.”
Household hazardous waste (HHW) is hazardous waste generated by households that is ignitable, toxic, reactive, corrosive, or otherwise poses a threat to human health or the environment. Indiana’s Electronic Waste law prohibits households, small businesses, and schools from disposing of electronic waste in the trash.
The City is partnering with local nonprofit RecycleForce for electronics recycling. RecycleForce reduces crime through re-entry employment and job training opportunities while improving the environment through electronics recycling.

Those interested but unable to attend the event are reminded that they can dispose of hazardous and electronics waste on Saturdays at ToxDrop sites across the county.
